We are pleased to have been involved in securing $489,200 from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation for the Nurse Residency Program at the Visiting Nursing Association of Western New York (VNA). This program trains newly graduated nurses to provide care in-home. Much of the work is in rural communities that are underserved by health care due to the closing of hospitals and health clinics. Before the start of this program, the VNA only had the option of hiring experienced nurses, and with the current nationwide nursing shortage, the problem of getting care to those who need it in their homes — particularly in those rural communities — was becoming acute. We are proud to have been involved in helping new nurses get the additional training and guidance they need to enter a career in home health care while also ensuring the excellent care provided by the VNA is extended to all who need it in the 10 counties they serve.
